Selphie Tilmitt from Final Fantasy VIII

I’m one of those crazy people that actually really liked FFVIII. Selphie is definitely my favorite in the game, and her costume is really cute. I spotted the perfect yellow corduroy for making this outfit at Wal-Mart of all places, and it was really cheap so I decided to go ahead and make this. Plus, my friend Kitty was doing Rinoa for Nekocon 8 (2005, I think) so I thought we could cosplay together.

Just a quick FYI, since people ALWAYS email me about this outfit (why, I have no idea): I don’t have this costume anymore because it became too baggy for me to wear after I lost weight, so there will not be anymore pictures of it. :/ I can’t sell it to you either, it’s long gone. Sorry. Maybe I’ll re-make it someday but for now, no.
Construction. I made this a while ago, so I actually don’t remember what pattern I used for the dress. In the game, Selphie has triangular buckles and not regular overall buckles, so I made my own with heavy gauge wire and buttons. The boots are from Newport News, and the wig I got on eBay. The hardest task was the weapon, since I’m really not that great with props. I cut the Star and Moon out of really thick craft foam, glued them to 1cm wood dowels and then drilled holes into larger wood poles and inserted them in the tops of the larger wood that way. I bought the chain from a hardware store and attached the two nunchaku together with it.
