Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII
Like I said with Selphie, I loved FFVIII. I’m not in love with Rinoa as a character, though I quite admire her assertiveness (I swear, I’m totally gonna to use that “you’re going to like me…” shit on some stoic dude I have a crush on someday). I really love her outfit though, it’s very elegant, and still has that FF style without screaming “designed by Tetsuya Nomura”.
Construction. The main challenge with this outfit was finding an appropriate ribbed fabric, since I don’t have the patience to knit the entire thing myself. Eventually, I found a 100% cotton rib knit on Fabric.com and bought a bunch of it. I made the duster and armwarmers from patterns I drafted. The fabric was white, so I dyed it blue with RIT dye. The color wasn’t really bright enough so I dyed it again with Dylon dye, and I liked the results of that much more. I made a stencil in photoshop of the “wing” image and used that to paint them onto the back of the duster. Unfortunately I forget what patterns I used for the shorts and skirt, but I added separating zippers into the front of the shorts. The boots I bought at wal-mart and added buckles to. Lastly, the wig was basically already in the style of her hair, I just added a few blonde extensions to it.
