Kim

Kim is only in one episode, “Victor. Echo. November.” but she’s a pretty popular character nonetheless.
Inspiration: I love this episode, I’ve watched it more times than I can remember. I’ve been dying to make Kim’s awesome outfit and I coerced my friend Lisa into being Triana so we could cosplay together. There’s a bunch of inconsistencies regarding Kim’s outfit in this episode, it seems like it changes in every shot (e.g. in one scene she’s wearing garter belts, in the next she isn’t, sometimes the back of her shirt looks transparent and sometimes it doesn’t, in one scene her skirt looks layered and in the next it looks flat, blah blah fucking blah). So I just designed the outfit based on the first full body shots you see when she enters the restaurant for simplicity’s sake.
Construction: I had something like 2 days to make this before Dragon*Con 09 and I don’t think I slept at all. Thinking about how tired I was when I was working on it actually makes me angry.
For the skirt, I destroyed the Lust costume I made for Comic Con a few months earlier and made a bunch of panels, which I sewed together without using any pattern. For the top I think I used Simplicity 0512 (heavily altered) but I don’t remember. The buckles on the top are layers of craft foam and plastic that I glued together and spray painted. I bought the goggles, which had to be spray painted as well because they were black. I took off whatever strap they had attached to them and replaced it with a pink strap that I made. I couldn’t find any opaque pink thigh high stockings, so instead I wore pink fishnets that I already had. The wig was my Rinoa wig, to which I added white extensions leftover from my Hild costume (I saved those dumb extensions for literally years, I’m happy they finally came in handy ). Finally, to give my wig that “boost” that Kim has, I inserted one of those BumpIts into the back. It’s basically a piece of plastic that lifts up your hair to make it look like it has more volume than it actually does.
