Jasmine and BONUS Ariel – a Disney/Sailormoon double feature

So, a billion years ago, M. Alice LeGrow (the author of Bizenghast drew the fan art of the Disney Princesses in Sailormoon outfits seen above. She and my darling friend Krys “Ambrosia” Lewis were organising a group of people to cosplay those designs at Katsucon 13. They asked me to be Jasmine, and I really couldn’t say no. I also made Ariel’s costume for her.
Construction. I had one day to make both my and Ariel’s outfits. So, this costume wasn’t really hard to make, it was just a matter of finishing it in time. I used a lot of tips from Lynleigh’s site on making it, she has a tutorial on making sailor senshi uniforms that is pretty good, I recommend looking there if you want pointers on making one. The only thing is, I couldn’t find a bathing suit or leotard pattern to alter, so I had to draft one myself which really sucked, and I had to draft my own patterns for the rest of the costume as well. I’m not that great at drafting with stretchy fabrics so I had to keep putting on the suit, and taking it off and adjusting it, until it fit right. I’ve made an ass-ton of Sailor collars in my time so that was no big deal, neither was the pleated circle skirt. The bows are basically just gathered rectangles, and the jewelry is all craft foam.
