Hikaru from Hikaru no Go (two costumes)

Holy shit, I LOVE Hikaru no Go. I bought the first volume of it on a whim at Otakon 05, and I was totally hooked after that. I really can’t explain why, it’s just such a cute yet engaging manga. I’ve never seen the anime, so I don’t know much about that, but the manga is awesome. The artwork is beautiful and the story is refreshing and fun. Who knew a board game could be the basis for such a great series? Normally I’m not into dressing up as a boy, nor am I usually interested in doing costumes that are THIS easy, but I just could not resist. And actually, I think I look surprisingly dude-like in these outfits for whatever reason. I’ve made two Hikaru costumes, which you can view below.
Construction. For both outfits, I bought t-shirts and added the appliques to them. The trousers I made with commercial patterns. The wig is 2 short wigs that I cut up and hand-sewed together: that was the only sort of hard part, since I’d never sewn 2 wigs together before.
