Harley Quinn from Batman the Animated Series

I love Batman! No, I adore Batman, and Harley is by far my favorite character. She’s one of my favorite characters of all time, and I could go on forever about how I think she’s funny, sexy, has an amazing costume, and is a total breath of fresh air in the world of Batman characters. To be 100% honest, I almost chose to call this site HarleyCosplay instead of VentureCosplay because I love her that much. Alas, the main reason I didn’t is because I HATE THE JOKER. I wish Harley would just stick with Ivy, they make a way better team and a better couple. So, that’s why I got my friend Lisa to cosplay Poison Ivy with me. HARLEY+IVY 4-EVER
Construction. I had a week to make this costume, and unfortunately I went about making it all the wrong way because everything I thought was going to be easy ended up being difficult, and all the things I thought would be difficult were a total snap. The hood and bodysuit were the easiest, I drafted the hood pattern by draping fabric over a wig head and I used a Kwik Sew unitard pattern for the bodysuit – I specifically chose one with seams in the front and back instead of on the sides. I cut the pattern in half so I could add the blocks of color. The boots were easy, I quickly drafted a pattern for them myself. The collar and cuffs were a pain. The collar I drafted myself, and those little tiny inward curves were hard to get right. I didn’t want there to be a big fugly seam on the back, so I made it so that it closes over my shoulder instead. The cuffs are fabric cuffs, with really long strips of fabric gathered onto them. The mask is made of wonderflex, and I shaped it to a foam wig head. I glued it onto my face with nail glue of all things, since I didn’t really want to resort to using an elastic to keep it on. I made my own gloves, but unfortunately I forgot at home them the second time I wore this outfit, and had to use white gloves instead in the photoshoots seen below.
