Dr. Mrs. The Monarch

While I’ll always like the pink dress and pillbox hat the best, I love Dr. Girlfriend’s new costume! I had the perfect fabric for it leftover from Catwoman, so I decided to make it for Otakon 09.
Construction notes. I could probably write a book on the amount of pain and suffering I endured making this thing but I’ll try to keep it short. Like with most of my costumes, I had a short amount of time to make this, a little less than a week. The bodysuit was made 2 patterns: the KwikSew leotard pattern that I used for Harley Quinn, and a bathing suit one. The monarch symbol was a pain in the ass to do, I had to do it over at least twice to get it to look right. The boots and gloves were made with patterns I drafted. The crown and necklace are craft foam layered over heat plastic. The hardest thing about wearing this is making the boots stand up. They slip down while I’m walking. Originally, I had planned to wear nylons or tights under the bodysuit, and then attach the boots to the nylons. However, I couldn’t find any sheer to waist tights before the con, so I attempted to attach the boots directly to my legs. At first I used fashion tape, then spirit gum, then eyelash glue at Comic Con when I forgot my spirit gum at home (ugh). Eventually at Dragon*Con 09 I installed clear straps to hold them up.

Now, I know what question is on your mind. The answer is double sided tape. Additionally, there is a hidden strap going across the back of my neck that holds the shoulders together to prevent the costume from falling off me, should the tape fail. Which it has, multiple times.
