Dr. Girlfriend

Dr. Girlfriend

This was the first Venture Brothers costume I made. Dr. Girlfriend is my favorite for a variety of reasons, and I think she’s one of the best characters ever, period. She’s incredibly smart, she’s super sexy without looking heinously unrealistic, she’s funny, and she kicks ass without the use of gimmicky super powers – all the while maintaining her femininity. She is basically the perfect character, in my eyes.
I first wore this for Halloween 2008. At the time, I was still at Berklee and I wore it to a Halloween house party run by one of my former roommates. I didn’t expect anyone to know who I was supposed to be, and most people kept calling me “hot nurse” or similar, but to my surprise there were actually a few people who recognized the character! Since then I’ve worn it to almost every con I’ve gone to.

And before you ask, no, I can’t do the voice! My regular speaking voice is pretty deep as it is, but not that deep.

Construction notes. This was pretty basic. I bought the gloves and go go boots, and I made the hat and gloves with my own pattern. I wasn’t sure which buttons to use at first, but ended up going with the pearl ones because I liked how they looked the best. You can’t see them in most of these pictures, but I also had pearl earrings. The wig was a long brown one that I cut and curled into her hair style.

Unfortunately, I tend to be drunk a lot when wearing this costume, which is why a lot of the pictures are blurry, taken in questionable locations such as the bathroom, or are of me laughing and being generally out of character. I’ll have to do a proper photoshoot at an appropriate location some time soon.
