Catwoman from Batman Returns

Alright, it’s no secret: I LOVE Batman. To be honest, I’m not crazy about Catwoman in the comic, and she was a little bit cooler in the animated series, but in my opinion I always found her to be just another female villain. Then I saw this movie. Nothing beats the Batman Returns version of Catwoman. Her costume is absolutely rad, and her personality and character progression are just amazing in this movie. She’s not just some dumb bitch who steals jewelry anymore, she became a truly believable, bad ass anti-hero in Returns. I know a lot of die-hard comic fans were nerd-raging about how different she was in this movie compared to the comic, and complaining that Tim Burton altered her character too much; whine whine whine, nerd nerd nerd. Well, I say FUCK THAT. Tim Burton made her way more awesome than she ever was in any other version of Batman. And that’s my Batman related rant for this page.
Construction. This costume was surprisingly easy. I used a Kwik Sew bodysuit pattern (the same one I used for Harley) to do the body suit, then I added the white stitches to it by hand. I used a Simplicity lingerie pattern to make the corset, and installed a separating zipper into it so I could get it on and off easily. The hood was the hardest part, I drafted a pattern for it by stretching fabric over a wig head. It’s really uncomfortable to wear, and squishes the bridge of my nose something fierce. The boots I already had, I bought gloves and a whip.
