Black Lady from Pretty Soldier Sailormoon R

I trust every anime fan is familiar with Sailormoon. To be honest, I don’t like the Sailormoon anime. It has its moments, but generally I felt like it was just repetitive garbage. Recently, my friend Krys made a Michiru costume from the manga (comic book that the anime is loosely based on). I had heard that the Sailormoon manga was really different from the animation, and I realised that I had never actually read it. So I decided to give it a chance. And wow, the manga is a BILLION times better than the anime in virtually every way. It makes way more sense, and isn’t cheesy like the anime. It really is a damn shame that the people who created the animation didn’t stick to Takeuchi’s original work more closely: they didn’t even bother to mimic her art style for god’s sake.
That brings me to this character. Chibiusa is my favorite character in Sailormoon. I know everyone else hates her, I don’t care, I think she’s awesome, ESPECIALLY in the manga. However, she’s also a little kid for most of the series, so I thought it would be more appropriate, with my body type, for me to dress as this adult, evil version of her. Also, the Black Moon saga is awesome, even the anime version of it isn’t too bad.
Construction. Hahaha. Usually I’m pretty good at making costumes in a short amount of time, but luck was NOT on my side for this one. I had a day to make this, I used a commercial pattern instead of drafting one to make it happen a little faster. Alas, I made the dress too small in the chest. It doesn’t zip up all the way, when I tried to wear it at Otakon 2009 the zipper broke. So, that’s why only a couple pictures of it exist. I will say that I think the wig came out great, I used Beverly’s Sailormoon wig tutorial to make it, except I used foam eggs instead of balls to replicate Chibiusa’s hair. Eventually I’ll re-make this dress so it actually fits this time, but until then, have a couple of shots Tim took:
